Statsmith answers plain-English sports questions with real numbers computed from real game data. Using the site means you're okay with what follows. It's short on purpose.
What this is
Statsmith is a free service for personal, non-commercial use. Ask questions, share answers, download the tables and cards your questions produce. That's the deal, and there's no paid tier hiding behind it.
The numbers
Every number is computed from source game data — never generated or estimated by AI. Each answer states exactly what was computed, and where the data has honest limits (eras before play-by-play, archival box scores that disagree with other references, stats that need data we don't have), the answer says so or declines rather than guessing. That said: our numbers are computed from public data, not official league records, and we don't warrant they match official records in every case. The service is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind, and we're not liable for decisions made on it. If you find a number that looks wrong, we genuinely want to know — there's a box on that page, and no account or email address is required to use it.
Fair use of the service
- Personal use only. Don't resell, redistribute in bulk, or build commercial products on responses from this site.
- No scraping or automated querying. Per-user limits exist and automated bulk access is not permitted. The site is for people asking questions.
- Shared answer links and downloaded cards are yours to post anywhere, with the provenance they carry.
Data sources & attribution
- MLB — data courtesy of MLB Advanced Media, © MLBAM. Source games link back to MLB Gameday.
- NFL — data from nflverse (CC-BY-4.0).
- NHL — data from the NHL's public statistics interfaces.
- NBA — historical data from public archival datasets.
We never redistribute raw source feeds — answers are computed results with receipts, not data dumps.
Not affiliated with any league
Statsmith is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League, or any of their teams. League and team names and marks belong to their owners and appear only to identify the subject of the data.
Privacy
- There are no accounts. We don't know who you are.
- Questions you ask are logged, with technical telemetry (timing, token counts), to fix wrong answers, close data gaps, and keep the service fast. Don't put personal information in a question.
- Rate limits are enforced by IP address. We don't sell or share any of this with anyone.
- Feedback is stored without your address. A note sent from the feedback page keeps your message, the page you sent it from, and the contact detail you chose to type — and nothing else. Your IP is counted against a daily limit but never stored beside the message.
- Shared links are public. When you share an answer, that answer is pinned under a public URL that anyone with the link can open. The question text is part of it.
Changes
If these terms change, the effective date above changes with them. The current version is always at this address.
